Really impressed at how light they are
Darren, Roads Policing Unit
So the boot looks smart it's well boxed and claims a number of features which include a YKK side zip with Velcro securing tab.
This is a great feature with the higher ankle boot as it saves a lot of time and effort getting the boots on and off which I'm a fan of.
This also affords good access into the boot which you will see and feel is a very light boot.
The boots are well made with a durable leather upper that has hardwearing breathable mesh panels which are with a fast wicking lining which apparently helps to control moisture management.
Magnum also claim that the boots lining will help with keeping your feet dry and cool through all seasons.
Having worn them they kept my feet cosy with no strange smells coming from them after a long shift.
The boot is really comfortable with plenty of room in the toe so a wider foot will have no issues here.
The boot also has a durable rustproof hardware with an EVA insole to help with energy absorption apparently and it also sports a duel density PU outsold for improved grip. They also have an oil resistant anti slip shock sole.
The boots have good grip all round and I've been walking through and jumping over all sorts whilst at work and I've avoided slipping over and breaking my neck.
The boots look smart they have clean lines with the leather and fabric combo and they offer good comfort. The boot has a padded collar around the top of the boot which helps on those longer shifts.
The ease of the side zip is for me the best feature and the Velcro tag stops any rattling if you have to run.
I'm a size 9 and I could've gotten away with an 8.5 as there is plenty of room in them even with thicker socks.
The width is good for larger feet I'm not sure if the do a narrower sizing?
I was really impressed when I had them on for a few days how light they are which with previous boots I've had can become heavy.
The boot is simple unzip put on adjust laces zip up and away you go. This is a lightweight and comfy boot that will help you on the long shift. I've worn Magnums now for many years and this is an improvement. Magnum have done well here and depending on price these will offer comfort, durability and smart boot. Patrolstore I understand will have the exclusive on these boots so I'm sure they will offer this at a great price. Patrolstore offer a great service, their really helpful and I've always received my kit quickly.
Wow! Great protection in a side zip boot!
So today I am reviewing the Magnum Centurion side zip 8.0 boots. As you will see from the look of the boots they are very similar looking to the Magnum Panther, and keep all the Magnum appeal!
Opening the box you get what seems to be a standard pair of Magnums, but boy do these pack a punch.
Right, down to the nitty-gritty. The Centurions are made of black breathable leather with a nylon anti-abrasion and breathable side. These boots are amazingly soft and I would say require absolutely no breaking in period. Weighing in at 560gr these are superb for long days on your feet.
This is actually the first pair of side zip boots I have tried and have to honestly say WOW! After a long day the YKK zip allows the boots to easily slip on and off. As you can see from the picture the boots have a YKK zip that runs the inner of the boots along with laces that slip through plastic eyelets to give you a little more added comfort.
The inner of this boot is has a few hidden comforts! The tongue is extremely well padded, as is the inner of the boot. Not only this! The inner is comprised of an antiperspirant lining that actually pulls the sweat from a hard day on your feet allowing you to remain comfortable for much longer. The inner is also removable which enables your to clean with ease.
Ok, so we have now hit on a couple of the great points about these boots but the boots are still full of even more great points. So protection for your feet, the boots are 19cm in height so support the ankle really well, although they are very soft they have ribs and leather cuffs in the right places to ensure your heel and toes are protected.
Soles are perhaps one of the more important factors of your boots and yet again these come up trumps with the sole that is resistant to hydrocarbons, also none slip oil resistant and serrated SRA rated rubber. With this said the Magnum Centurion are tested to the European Standard EN ISO 20347: 2012 OB E FO SRA concerning professional footwear.
So an over view on the Magnum Centurion 8.0 side zips boots. All I can say for these is wow! For my field of work within the close protection industry these boots would be a valued asset to the long days on my feet. I would also say they would be superb for most other aspects of security or policing where your feet take the brunt of the long days.
Good light, comfortable and durable boot at a reasonable price
J Stephens, Response Officer
I am a response officer and fairly active in terms of my policing style and I like to be out and about. I have worn the Magnum Centurion for around 5 days now mainly on night shifts. The first noticeable pro about this boot is the weight. It is like a feather, ideal for those who like walking around a lot or running! This added with the lack of breaking in time is a major plus for the Centurion. I wore just normal everyday socks and there was no slippage and no rubbing meaning that blisters were a thing of the past. The internal liner is padded for extra comfort and the shock absorber on the sole adds to the operational nature of these boots. If you are going to be running, walking for long distances and jumping around then these are the boots for you. They have the trademark side zip on the boot for extra comfort and a mesh outside part around the laces and lower ankle providing comfort. If you are a regular Level 2 officer then these are probably not the boots for you as they do not have as much reinforcement. Being an avid follower of Altberg boots I was pleasantly surprised by Magnum's latest addition to the boot market. My only complaint would be the mesh material around the laces. Especially in the winter months when I am traipsing around outside the last thing I want is water getting into my boot. This has always been an issue of mine with Magnum but that is just my personal preference. I would say this boot is ideally suited to this in jobs that are going to be a lot of walking around and want something light, comfortable and durable at a cheaper price than most of the other 'tactical' brands that supply specialist units such as firearms and dog units.
A boot for the urban workers amongst us
Magnum have established themselves as a mainstay of the patrol boot industry. The Centurion has been introduced for 2017 to sit alongside their existing models as a Lightweight Patrol Boot. It's most comparable sibling is the 'Panther 8.0' which is one of the main models of the company. On the simplest level, the Centurion should be considered as a more lightweight version of the Panther, with the addition of a side-zip. It's a little more than that though. With a few simple changes, Magnum have created a entry-level boot almost perfectly made for urban use.
I'll start with the sole. It's one of the softest I've ever worn and that comfort coupled with a tread that's designed to be slip resistant to oil/liquids, creates a great footbed for use in urban areas (think gravel/tarmac/flooring/etc) that's not only gripping but also bouncy. It's tread isn't designed for hiking though, so bear that in mind if you're planning to use your boot in fields or rural environments.
Moving on to the boot upper, it's a thinner design than most and is not waterproof, but you wouldn't want waterproof anyway! Unless you're out in the fields trekking through puddles and mud, you simply don't need full waterproofing. A water-resistant boot (like the Centurion) is far better as the lack of a waterproof layer results in a much more breathable piece of footwear, and thus less sweaty feet, which is very important for comfort. This means your feet will run cooler (something you'll be very thankful of during those summer months!). Plus, as long as you keep them in good condition with regular polishing, they'll keep out even the most heavy of rains, and if you do end up submerging them and getting water inside, they'll dry off much faster than a sealed set.
The side-zip makes the boot easy to take on and off and is more robust than ones I've seen on similarly priced models. The only downside to a side-zip is water-ingress but as already mentioned, the boot isn't waterproof anyway so that's not an issue. Sizing wise, they seem to be a little over-sized, so order your standard shoe sizing and you should be alright (no need to go one size up). The high flexibility of both the upper and the sole make these boots very agile and easy to drive in.
I would make an important point about this boot though; no matter the enhancements made by Magnum in recent years, the Centurion is still a budget boot. Unsurprisingly, a £50ish boot is never going to be on the same level as the top tier offerings from companies like Altberg and Lowa (which retail £150-£200), but there's nothing wrong about that. Magnum have created with the Centurion a brilliant boot for the price that'll do the job you need it to do. Just be aware that like any entry-level boot it won't last forever, and if you can stretch to over £100 you could (and should) take a look at the next level up (the 'Lowa Urban Military 2' would be a good consideration).
If I was on a budget of no more than £60, I'd happily take the Centurion. But, only if it was appropriate to what I needed it for. If you're going to be out in the country (Rural Police, Festival Security, etc.) then this isn't the boot for you (take a look at the Magnum Viper 8.0 Leather instead). The Centurion is one for the urban workers amongst us. If you're a Prison Officer, City/Urban Constable, Detention Officer, Doorman, or similar professional and you need a boot that's not going to break the bank, then look no further.
Good quality and good value
Sergeant, Response and Tactical Team
I have been wearing the Magnum Centurion boots for a good few weeks now and I have found them to be an excellent pair of boots. The boots are really comfortable and do not rub. They are well fitted and the side zip feature makes it easy for me to get the boots on and off which is essential for me and something I look for when selecting boots. I have always preferred boots that are taller to ensure protection and support for my ankles. This boot certainly gives me the ankle protection as well as added comfort and warmth.
I really like the look of the boots, they have a good shape to them and I have found them easy to clean. I was surprised how light the boots are considering their size as previous boots I have had of a similar size have been much heavier and I have found that they do not restrict movement or flexibility which is a good feature.
I have found that the boots have excellent grip on most surfaces and due to the water resistance and so far they have provided me protection against wet weather.
Due to all of these features I feel the boot is very good quality and good value for money. I would buy these again and would recommend them to friends and colleagues.Delivery Information
